‘The Simpsons’ marks 450th episode with special

To speak of the latest milestone by “The Simpsons” seems to restate the obvious.

On Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox, “The Simpsons” is airing its 450th episode. “Once Upon a Time in Springfield” will be followed by an hourlong documentary from Morgan Spurlock (”30 Days,” “Super Size Me”), fancifully titled “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice.

Poland launches Chopin bicentenary celebrations

Poland launched a year of celebrations Friday to mark the 200th anniversary of the celebrated composer Frederic Chopin, which will include events both at home and abroad.

Later Friday, the Warsaw Philharmonic was set to give its first concert as part of the years events, and on Thursday the Chinese pianist Lang Lan will play some of the composers most celebrated pieces at a concert in Warsaw.

Marvel shareholders approve acquisition by Disney

Shareholders of Marvel Entertainment, home of Spider-Man and the Hulk, have approved the company’s acquisition by Disney, as expected.

With the deal, The Walt Disney Co. gets Marvel Entertainment Inc.’s stable of more than 5,000 characters. Most of them are obscure, but several have been the basis for blockbuster movies in recent years.

Susan Boyle chases Swift in U.S. album chart nail-biter

Scottish singer Susan Boyle narrowly failed to claim honors for the years best-selling album in the United States on Wednesday, but still has another sales week to wrest the title from country star Taylor Swift.

Swifts “Fearless,” the No. 3 seller in 2008, has sold 3.16 million copies this year, giving the 20-year-old a margin of about 175,000 over Boyle.

Vampires rule, “Transformers” divides movie fans

The “Twilight” vampire franchise topped a survey of 2009 moviegoers favorites, but film fans were divided over whether they loved or hated this years “Transformers” sequel.

And “Transformers” star Megan Fox was overwhelmingly voted both the years sexiest female actress, and the actress who gave the worst performance of the 2009, according to the poll released on Monday.

Tyra Banks says she’s ending her talk show

Tyra Banks is pulling the plug on her talk show.

In a statement on her Web site, Banks also paid tribute to talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey, who’s ending her talk show in 2011.

The former model says the syndicated “The Tyra Show” will end after its fifth season. Banks says she’s sticking with the reality show “America’s Next Top Model” and is forming a new production studio with plans to make movies.

Sarandon, Robbins split after 23 years together

One of Hollywood’s most enduring couples has separated.

Sarandon, 63, and Robbins, 51, met while shooting the 1988 film “Bull Durham.” He played a hotshot pitcher, she was the passionate fan who simultaneously seduced him and prepared him for the big leagues.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, partners for 23 years and parents of two sons, split up over the summer, publicist Teal Cannady said in a statement Wednesday.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have broken up.

Sarandon, 63, and Robbins, 51, met while shooting the 1988 film “Bull Durham.” They have two sons together.

Publicist Teal Cannady said in a statement that the two actors separated over the summer after 23 years together. She did not elaborate.

Sarandon stars in “The Lovely Bones,” opening worldwide next month.

Mariah Carey to begin tour on December 31

Mariah Carey will launch her first North American tour in more than three years on December 31 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The tour will promote Careys latest album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,” which has sold a disappointing 344,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
