‘The Simpsons’ marks 450th episode with special

To speak of the latest milestone by “The Simpsons” seems to restate the obvious.

On Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox, “The Simpsons” is airing its 450th episode. “Once Upon a Time in Springfield” will be followed by an hourlong documentary from Morgan Spurlock (”30 Days,” “Super Size Me”), fancifully titled “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice.

Fox, Time Warner Cable ink temp deal to avoid blackout

Time Warner Cable and News Corps Fox Networks agreed to a brief extension of their current carriage contract on Thursday to avoid a blackout that would have prevented 13 million U.S. homes from seeing TV shows like “The Simpsons” and college and NFL football games.

Time Warner Cable also agreed a short extension with Scripps Networks Interactives Food Network.

Time Warner agrees to cooling-off period

Time Warner Cable Inc said on Thursday it has agreed to a 30-day cooling-off period in its talks over fees with News Corp.

Time Warner urged Fox to do the same.

The cable company said it had accepted New York Congressman Steve Israels written request for a cooling-off period in current negotiations with News Corp over fees to broadcast Fox TV programs.

Jackson “Thriller” film picked for U.S. registry

Michael Jacksons 1983 short movie “Thriller,” the song-and-dance horror flick that helped popularize television music videos, will live on in the U.S. National Film Registry.

“The Muppet Movie” of 1979, featuring Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, 1975 bank robbery drama “Dog Day Afternoon” starring Al Pacino, the 1957 science fiction movie “The Incredible Shrinking Man” and Sergio Leones 1968 spaghetti western “Once Upon a Time in the West” also made the list.

Time Warner Cable could OK arbitration with Fox

Time Warner Cable Inc said it is willing to enter into binding arbitration with News Corps Fox Networks to avoid switching off some of Foxs channels if the companies fail to agree on a new carriage deal.

Britt was responding to a December 22 letter from Kerry that urged a swift resolution and suggested that, in the absence of an agreement, Fox allow Time Warner Cable to continue transmitting programing through the college bowl football season either under current terms or terms that can be retroactively applied after a deal is reached.

Bart Simpson and the Sugar Bowl game are among the possible casualties of a bitter dispute over fees that the Fox network’s owner is demanding from Time Warner Cable systems in New York, Los Angeles and other markets.

Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt said Wednesday the cable operator will agree to binding arbitration and any interim steps necessary to keep Fox channels on while talks continue.

British writer Ali Shaw drew inspiration from fairy tales for his debut novel and to magical effect, with “The Girl With Glass Feet” published to great acclaim.

The novel will be published in the United States in January.

The novel, which has been short-listed for the Costa First Book Award, is a set in a snowbound, remote land where winged creatures and albino animals live and Ida MacLaird is slowly turning into glass when she falls in love.

‘Thriller’ to be preserved in US film registry

Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video, with that unforgettable graveyard dance, will rest among the nation’s treasures in the world’s largest archive of film, TV and sound recordings.

It’s the first music video named to the registry. It had been considered in past years, but following Jackson’s death, the time was right, said Steve Leggett, coordinator of the National Film Preservation Board.

A new Van Morrison is born: Singer has a baby boy

A new Van Morrison has been born.

The couple says that “Little Van” is “the spitting image of his daddy.” The baby is a dual citizen of the United States and Britain.

Irish singer says on his Web site that he and his wife, GiGi, welcomed their son George Ivan Morrison III on Monday.

No other information was available.

MSNBC criticized for response to terrorism story

MSNBC spent considerable time Monday reporting on the aftermath of an attempted Christmas Day attack on a Detroit-bound airliner, but its executives didn’t want to talk about why the story received little attention as it was breaking.

MSNBC has been criticized in the past for failing to respond quickly to breaking news during off-hours, a choice that may complicate its efforts to be seen as a go-to news source.
