New Orleans great Toussaint feted in hometown

Over music and gumbo served in a historic New Orleans nightclub, pianist and hit songwriter Allen Toussaint will join the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

The Mother-in-Law Lounge is named for K-Doe’s biggest hit from the ’60s, “Mother-In-Law,” which was written by Toussaint. And after being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, the rebuilt club stands as a living monument of Big Easy musical history.

‘Boom-boom’ Becker to be father for fourth time

Former world number one tennis player Boris Becker revealed on Saturday that he is set to become a father for the fourth time.

The 41-year-old Becker married his 33-year-old Dutch wife Lilly Kerssenberg in St Moritz, Switzerland on June 12.

“Its true, were going to become parents,” the three-time Wimbledon champion told the Germany daily Bild.

British novelist Stanley Middle dies at 89

The family of British novelist Stanley Middleton says he has died of cancer at age 89.

Nearly all of Middleton’s 44 novels were based in Nottingham, though he often called the town “Beechnall.” He was born in Nottingham, took his university degree in the city, and taught English at High Pavement school in the city from 1947 to 1981, heading the department for 23 years.

Schumacher visits Massa in hospital

Seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher on Saturday visited injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa in hospital, whose doctor confirmed he would travel home next week.

He left hospital without speaking to journalists.

The German pilot had announced on Thursday that he would replace his friend Massa in the Ferrari team for the European Grand Prix race in Valencia, Spain, on August 23, and possibly for the rest of the season.

China-based cyber attack hits Australia film festival site

A China-based cyber attack on Saturday shut down online bookings for a leading Australian film festival, days before a controversial visit by a leading critic of Beijing, organizers said.

Festival spokeswoman Asha Holmes said a site in Chinese had been discovered carrying instructions on how to attack the festivals site.

China summons Aussie ambassador over Uighur visit

China summoned the Australian ambassador to protest a proposed visit to his country by an exiled Uighur leader whom Beijing accuses of instigating recent ethnic riots that killed nearly 200 people, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday.

China one of Australia’s most important trading partners has made repeated requests to the Australian government to refuse her a visa.

English football pays tribute to ‘gentleman’ Robson

English footballs leading figures paid tribute to Sir Bobby Robson on Friday after the former England coach lost his long battle with cancer.

England manager Fabio Capello said: “Sir Bobby was a wonderful man, a real gentleman.

Robson passed away aged 76 at his family home on Friday morning and his death brought an immediate out-pouring of love and respect from the football community.
